- Introduction to GPS
1. Introduction to GPS
- GPS stands for Global Positioning System, it is funded and
controlled by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). It is a global
navigation system based on 24 orbiting satellites. The service
is free to use, the only costs being the initial purchase price
of the GPS receiver and any accessories you may require.
-
- By using a GPS receiver, this gives you an accurate navigational
tool for use anywhere around the world. They can be used whilst
walking, in a vehicle, on a boat, or in the air. Some models
of GPS receivers have built in map data bases. These, and some
others, can be connected to a laptop computer suitably equipped
with moving map program software displaying your position on
the map.
-
- GPS vehicle tracking systems that we can supply are based
on an amalgam of GPS and cellular based technologies. More information
will be made available on the web site soon. Phone us for latest
information.
